There are many different types of wrappers available,
What do they mean and how do they transpire to my smoking experience?
Connecticut- Connecticut shade leaf is still the most popular wrapper of choice for premium cigar smokers in America. Sometimes called “shade” due to the process of growing the leafs under tents to protect the leafs from the sun. The Connecticut wrapper leaf is one of the most expensive agricultural commodities. This type of leaf also allows for an even burn. The elasticity of the band allows for a smooth smoke, giving the cigar balance.
Maduro- Is our dark wrap. The darker the leaf wrap, the milder the taste. A maduro wrapper tends to be sweeter in flavor, this is due to the extra exposure to the sun. The more sun equates to more sugars and oils produced. There is essentially no “maduro” leaf, it is created by the number of fermentation processes used to achieve the color, flavor and strength.
Habano- Habano wrappers tend to be a bit darker and have a tendency to be spicy. Habano refers not only to the fact that it’s generally grown from Cuban seed, but also to the fact that its spice level is comparable to that of a Cuban cigar. They can be grown in several countries, though a popular choice is Nicaragua, as the soil content there is conducive to producing some very strong leaves. Tasting notes include bread, intense spice, leather, cocoa, espresso, and cedar.

Cigar Ring Size (Gauge)
The gauge of a cigar determines the overall flavoring of the cigar. Typically the higher the diameter, the more full developed the flavor, while also slowing down the burn. Cigar gauges are measured by the 64th of an inch. Example, our factory standard churchill is 7x50. This mean that it is 7 inches in length and 50/64th of an inch in diameter.
Cigar Care
- It is recommended to keep cigars in humidors, or in a sealed package with one of our Boveda 2-way humidity control packs. The appropriate humidity level is right around 70%.
-We suggest not to place cigars in the refrigerator or a freezer. This can be done by professionals, if novice, this is a quick way to dry out your cigars.
-Do not place cigars around aromatic products whether strong foods or strong scented candles. Cigars are quick to absorb surrounding smells, and an onion flavored cigar would be the last on our list to smoke.
-Allow your cigar to adapt to room temperature. Otherwise, the wrapper casing can be affected and flake.

Cutting a Cigar
Most cigars require cutting or a punch prior to smoking. The cutting of a cigar we believe is one of the most important parts of the process. Always use a sharp blade. A dull blade can lead to unraveling, and an uneven pull.
It is important to not cut the cigar until your are absolutely ready to smoke it. Otherwise, the chances of drying out are increased.
Tips include: Hold the cigar at eye level to ensure an even cut. Cut along the edge where the cigar cap meets the body. If you cut too far into the body of the cigar, the chances of unravelling increase. Also, cut quickly. Cutting slow can flatten your cigar, or cause an uneven damaged cut.

Lighting a Cigar
We recommend using a butane lighter or wooden match. Both methods are free of foreign chemicals, which can often affect the taste.
Puff on the cigar slowly while rotating until the outer rim is lit. The outer rim will begin to glow and the draw should become easy to pull. Puff on the cigar every so often to ensure that the cigar remains lit.
